Fun Kitchen Science Project:
Shine Pennies with Ketchup!- Let the kids pour Ketchup on a few dull, tarnished pennies
- Wait five minutes, then rub with fingers or an old toothbrush and rinse
- Pennies get dull over time because the copper slowly reacts with air to form a layer of dull, greenish copper oxide
- The acid in the ketchup dissolves the copper oxide, leaving behind shiny clean pennies!
- You can also try vinegar and salt, or lemon juice. See which works best!
